Conservation Week 2027 has its dates: 19–25 April
DOC has set Conservation Week 2027 for 19–25 April. Here’s what’s confirmed and how to start planning a useful local conservation activity.
DOC has confirmed 19–25 April for Conservation Week 2027. It’s an early date for the calendar if your whānau, workplace or walking group wants to get involved in looking after the places you enjoy.
A week built around working together
The announcement, released on 10 September, puts the focus on people taking action together. That can include volunteering, fundraising or a manageable nature project close to home. DOC says more resources will follow nearer the week.
Local activity details will follow nearer the week.
Make the activity fit the group
Our suggestion is to start with an established local group and ask what help it actually needs. An hour spent on a useful job can be better than organising a big outing without a clear purpose.
Before offering people’s time, find out about age limits, supervision, transport, accessibility and whether tools are supplied. Ask the organiser which footwear and clothing suit the work; a visitor walk and a muddy restoration job can need different kit.
Keep the planning simple
Put the week in your calendar, nominate one person to follow up and wait for the local details before buying anything. Check what you can borrow or already own first. For a walking-based activity, our NZ day-walk gear guide is a useful starting point, alongside the organiser’s instructions.
