Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge returns on 28 November
The 2026 Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge is set for 28 November, with road, mountain-bike and other ride options. Choose the event before choosing the gear.
Lake Taupō Cycle Challenge is scheduled for 28 November 2026, its 48th running. The programme has more than the round-the-lake road ride, so there’s value in comparing the individual events before making a plan.
One weekend, different riding choices
The official programme lists road, mountain-bike and gravel options, alongside other rides. Course demands, start arrangements and equipment needs should be checked on the page for the event you actually intend to enter.
The organiser describes the Cycle Challenge as a Rotary event operated by a charitable trust.
Start with the bike you will use
Our suggestion is to decide which event suits your riding, then assess whether your bike is ready for it. Allow time for a competent mechanic to investigate anything uncertain. Buying accessories first can miss the more important job of making the bike dependable.
Try your clothing and carrying setup on ordinary rides beforehand. Check how you’ll carry your own essentials against the event’s current information.
Plan beyond the start line
Accommodation, registration, transport and the trip home all belong in the budget. For a group, confirm whether everyone is entering the same event before sharing a plan.
Our second-hand gear checklist can help with clothing and bags. It does not replace a mechanical inspection or the organiser’s rider requirements.
