McLeans Forest celebrates 20 years on 3 October
Environment Canterbury lists a free McLeans Forest anniversary day on 3 October 2026, with activities from 10am to 2pm and a lunchtime barbecue.
McLeans Forest is marking 20 years with a public anniversary day on 3 October 2026. Environment Canterbury lists free activities from 10am to 2pm, giving families a nearby outdoor option during the school holidays.
What is planned
The programme includes Crazy Bikes, Agents of Discovery, a historic display and a barbecue from 11am to 1pm. Environment Canterbury describes McLeans as the first recreation area in the Waimakariri River Regional Park.
The listed activities are a reason to visit, but check the park’s event page again before travelling for changes to the programme or conditions.
Make room for an easy day
Our suggestion is to choose a modest plan for the family rather than trying to turn the celebration into a long riding mission as well. Agree where you’ll meet, keep an eye on younger riders and leave time for the activities.
If you intend to ride your own bike, check it before loading the car. Bring your bike and helmet if you plan to ride independently.
Check the small things before leaving
Bring the clothing, water and food you need for your own outing rather than relying entirely on the barbecue. Confirm access details through the official listing.
If the day prompts you to replace outdoor gear, our used-gear guide is a useful check before buying.
