DOC is seeking public submissions on ten applications for guided walking at the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The consultation opened on 30 September 2026 and closes at 5 pm on 29 October.

What is proposed?

The applications seek five-year concessions for guided walks. They also cover transporting clients to and from the Mangatepopo and Ketetahi Road car parks. The documents on DOC’s consultation page set out the individual proposals.

How to have your say

  1. Read the applications relevant to your interest on DOC’s page.
  2. Use DOC’s submission instructions and include the information it requests.
  3. Send your submission by 5 pm on Thursday 29 October 2026.

What happens next?

A hearing may be held in November before a decision is made. These are applications under consideration; they do not announce a new track closure or confirm that the proposed concessions have been granted.
