Waimārama beach vehicle proposal opens for public feedback
Hastings District Council is consulting on a new Waimārama beach vehicle proposal. It remains a proposal, with submissions to inform the final decision.
A new proposal for managing vehicles on Waimārama Beach is open for public feedback. Hastings District Council says consultation runs for a month from 23 September 2026.
What is being proposed
Within a mapped area, the proposal would limit vehicles to drivers with a mobility parking permit or a Council beach permit, with the latter available for ATVs. It also provides for specified exemptions and boat-launching areas.
Those details are proposals, not a newly completed rule change. Council says it will consider submissions before deciding whether to adopt, change or reject them. Read the actual map and consultation documents rather than inferring a boundary from a short summary.
Why outdoor users should pay attention
The decision could matter to people walking, fishing, launching boats or using the beach with family. Council identifies safety and environmental concerns as reasons for the consultation.
If you have useful local experience, a submission can explain the specific access point, activity or practical issue involved. Be clear about which part of the proposal you mean; a general view about vehicles may not answer a question about a particular area.
