Whaka 100’s 23–25 October 2026 programme brings a range of mountain-bike events to Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest. The event name is only the starting point: riders need to choose the particular race that suits them.

Read beyond the headline distance

The organiser lists the 100km event alongside the longer Miler and shorter 50km, 25km, 10km and kids’ options.

Check the current schedule for your race day, registration window and start.

Match the course to your preparation

Our suggestion is to look at terrain and technical demands as well as kilometres. Distance by itself says little about how a particular rider will handle a course.

Read the organiser’s rules and rider information, and resolve any uncertainty about equipment or eligibility before entering. Confirm that the bike you intend to use fits your chosen category.

Leave time for a proper bike check

If brakes, tyres, shifting or suspension need attention, sort that before the final week. Ask a qualified mechanic when you are unsure rather than relying on a quick visual check.

For clothing and carrying gear, our used outdoor gear guide helps you check actual condition. Try the complete setup on a suitable ride before event day, then follow the latest organiser updates.
